"Hidden Treasure" NYC Fashion Part I : Beacon Closet

So this past Saturday I met up with my friends Fashion Designer Kanarr Larique at Radio Personality Patrice Demns and we hit the streets of NYC looking for Hidden Fashion Treasures. Our first stop was Beacons Closet located at 10 W 13th st. Beacon Closet I must say is an amazing vintage store. Not only do they sell vintage pieces but they buy vintage pieces. So if there are some things that you have in your closet
or some old pieces from your Granny closet. This is the placed to bring them to. You get a percentage of what they will sell it for.

As I browsed through the store I spotted some really fashionable jackets, bags and footwear:

Here are some of my Fabulous Finds:

Tune in for the next post to see what other stores we discovered.

Until Next time!

Fab Five: Tips to Jump Start Your Year Suggested by People Magazine Dec 2011

So lately I have been addicted to fashion magazines and must admit that some of the magazines really have some great pointers. People Magazine December 2011 issue had a section titled "Jump - Start Your Year" where they gave 7 tips on how to make 2012 your best year and how to stay happy, healthy and stress - free! So here are my top 5 tips out of the 7:

1. Organize your closet
I totally agree I think a clean closet will help you to see what you have and allow you to get dress quicker everyday Similar to how we organize the wardrobe closet at BET. I suggest you color coordinate. CEO of LA CLoset Design and designer Lisa adams suggest "Start by taking everything out and arranging clothes into "Keep","donate" and "maybe" piles." She says you should invite and honest friend who can tell what can stay and what should go.

2. Sneak exercise into your routine!
I do believe that working out lifts your mood, It relieves stress, boost yoour ego as well as keep you inshape. Andre Weil M.D, author of Spontaneous Happiness says that "exercise doesn;t mean just going to the gym. It can mean walking an extra lap around the mall or taking the stairs at work."

3. Wake up your space
Remodeling your home or adding a lil splash on a budget will definetly make you feel better. People  Mag suggest that you "Rearrange furniture!" and/or "Paint something!"

4. Eat something green!
Eating vegetables and salads will give you energy and a great body cleanser.

5. Laugh it Up!
According to Dr.Weil, "the simple act of smiling can help generate positive feelings in your brain." Positive Energy breeds positive energy. Surround yourself with positive people it will help motivate you.

Thank You People Magazine for the amazing and helpful tips.

I have the pleasure of working alongside some of the most talented people in the industry. One of these people is Celebrity Makeup Artist Unique London. You may know her work from her day to day makeup artistry of Rocsi and Terrence J on BET 106 & Park. However she has worked with a number of celebrities, check out her website for her client list. I sat down with Unique and got some quick tips for the ladies and guys on how to maintain healthy skin, how to preserve you makeup and just basic cleansing advice.

TIPS FOR THE LADIES:

1. Turn your crumbled blush into lipgloss easily by adding Vaseline or Vitamin E oil

2. To Neutralize lip color add foundation to lip to get your lipstick true to color.

3.  Mix your foundation and Moisturizer with SPF 15, and you will have a sheer makeup look.

4.  For long lasting makeup application apply primer for your skin type, don’t forget the lids.

5. For wintery blistered lips mix Neosporin and Vitamin E oil in container

6. When wearing liquid eyeliner, pick a neutral eyeshadow that’s close to your skin tone.

7.To put some life to dull skin add luminizer lotion to your foundation.

8.Sugar cubes is a great lip exfoliater!

9.A great body balm is melting coconut oil and adding coconut milk , cool down. It hydrates and softens the body.

TIPS FOR WOMEN AND MEN
  1. Always follow a skincare regimen, Cleanser, Toner, Eyecream/Serum,  Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher.
2. Apply honey on a pimple and cover overnight with a bandaid in the morning  you will see it disappear. Honey is a natural antibacterial.

3. Wash your face Black Soap is great for oily skin and use Tea Oil on your blemish at night.

     4. Exfoliant skin twice a week for normal to dry skin, for oily skin exfoliate every other day.

     TIP FOR MEN
  1.  Tip from a barber friend of mine, Men  for ingrown  bumps,  wash face with a wet cloth as hot as you can take it and mix Neosporin and Clearisil together. Apply at night. ( Always test in neck area )
