Fab Five: Tips to Jump Start Your Year Suggested by People Magazine Dec 2011

So lately I have been addicted to fashion magazines and must admit that some of the magazines really have some great pointers. People Magazine December 2011 issue had a section titled "Jump - Start Your Year" where they gave 7 tips on how to make 2012 your best year and how to stay happy, healthy and stress - free! So here are my top 5 tips out of the 7:

1. Organize your closet
I totally agree I think a clean closet will help you to see what you have and allow you to get dress quicker everyday Similar to how we organize the wardrobe closet at BET. I suggest you color coordinate. CEO of LA CLoset Design and designer Lisa adams suggest "Start by taking everything out and arranging clothes into "Keep","donate" and "maybe" piles." She says you should invite and honest friend who can tell what can stay and what should go.

2. Sneak exercise into your routine!
I do believe that working out lifts your mood, It relieves stress, boost yoour ego as well as keep you inshape. Andre Weil M.D, author of Spontaneous Happiness says that "exercise doesn;t mean just going to the gym. It can mean walking an extra lap around the mall or taking the stairs at work."

3. Wake up your space
Remodeling your home or adding a lil splash on a budget will definetly make you feel better. People  Mag suggest that you "Rearrange furniture!" and/or "Paint something!"

4. Eat something green!
Eating vegetables and salads will give you energy and a great body cleanser.

5. Laugh it Up!
According to Dr.Weil, "the simple act of smiling can help generate positive feelings in your brain." Positive Energy breeds positive energy. Surround yourself with positive people it will help motivate you.

Thank You People Magazine for the amazing and helpful tips.

I have the pleasure of working alongside some of the most talented people in the industry. One of these people is Celebrity Makeup Artist Unique London. You may know her work from her day to day makeup artistry of Rocsi and Terrence J on BET 106 & Park. However she has worked with a number of celebrities, check out her website for her client list. I sat down with Unique and got some quick tips for the ladies and guys on how to maintain healthy skin, how to preserve you makeup and just basic cleansing advice.

TIPS FOR THE LADIES:

1. Turn your crumbled blush into lipgloss easily by adding Vaseline or Vitamin E oil

2. To Neutralize lip color add foundation to lip to get your lipstick true to color.

3.  Mix your foundation and Moisturizer with SPF 15, and you will have a sheer makeup look.

4.  For long lasting makeup application apply primer for your skin type, don’t forget the lids.

5. For wintery blistered lips mix Neosporin and Vitamin E oil in container

6. When wearing liquid eyeliner, pick a neutral eyeshadow that’s close to your skin tone.

7.To put some life to dull skin add luminizer lotion to your foundation.

8.Sugar cubes is a great lip exfoliater!

9.A great body balm is melting coconut oil and adding coconut milk , cool down. It hydrates and softens the body.

TIPS FOR WOMEN AND MEN
  1. Always follow a skincare regimen, Cleanser, Toner, Eyecream/Serum,  Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher.
2. Apply honey on a pimple and cover overnight with a bandaid in the morning  you will see it disappear. Honey is a natural antibacterial.

3. Wash your face Black Soap is great for oily skin and use Tea Oil on your blemish at night.

     4. Exfoliant skin twice a week for normal to dry skin, for oily skin exfoliate every other day.

     TIP FOR MEN
  1.  Tip from a barber friend of mine, Men  for ingrown  bumps,  wash face with a wet cloth as hot as you can take it and mix Neosporin and Clearisil together. Apply at night. ( Always test in neck area )

"Fab Five": A Sistas top 5 Cosmetic Bag Essentials by Makeup Artist Janene Manswell

Hey Guys,
So this is for my ladies that love to wear makeup or those who are afraid to take that next step. I understand some people love to reveal their natural glow but I must say there is nothing wrong with a "beated" face.
Thanks to Make up artist and Color Specialist at Sephora,
 Janene Manswell.

Janene shared her expertise and gave us "Five Fabulous" tips to upgrade our cosmetic bag.

A Sistas top 5 Cosmetics bag Essentials! Mmmmm Hmmmm!

1. Liner
-  Define the eyes with kohl waterproof liner. Waterproof to avoid smudging and running over your face. When applying to the top lid, close your eye and hold up lid. Apply along lash line to avoid seeing skin between lashes and liner.

-Remember, the darker the more intense so apply as needed.

Suggestion product:
Guerlain Terrocatta  khol liner $36 sold at Sephora.

          2. Foundation powder
-    -Makeup tends to look more attractive and clean when we have a clean canvas (even complexion). Even if you use a liquid or cream foundation always have a powder to set it. Especially for those with oily skin, powder will reassure the longevity of your makeup wear throughout the day… (wink).

-Remember, Powder absorbs moisture/oil. Most people get oily I the T-Zones area(nose and forehead)

     - Most African Americans have yellow undertone. Makeupforever provides a wide range of undertones in their products. You want a product to match your undertone for a perfect match. Otherwise, your complexion will give an off color or ashy look.

Suggestion Product:
Makeup Forever Duo Mat Powder $32 Sold at Sephora

3.  Cheek Blush/Bronze
-   No one wants dull skin. After achieving you clean canvas, add a little “Cheek Pop”!! Apply a little blush or Bronzer to the apples of your cheeks then gently stroke upward along cheek bone. If you’d like a little a little color add blush, if you’d like more of a” glowy” complexion, use a bronzer close to your skin complexion, for natural looking radiant skin

-   Remember, the lighter the application- the more natural looking.

Suggestion Product:
I like to use these products on more brown skin tones.
MAC Cosmetics, Blush: Breezy, or Bronzer Format $19.50
Sold at any MAC stand or store location

    4.Lipstick/Gloss
-Depending on what type of girl you are you may prefer a lot or less color. Some glosses provide very pigmented color while other provide sheer. I’m sure we all want a gloss that is long lasting, non sticky and doesn’t give us that white residue line after a half an hour wear or so

-  Remember, use a lip liner for perfect shaped lips, before applying gloss!

Suggestion Product:
Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss $21
Sold at any Bobbi Brown stand in department stores and selected Sephora locations.

   5.  Mascara
-We all want Mascara that gives us different options. Whether its full voluminous, separated or long lashes. Here’s a mascara that gives you everything you need!
The more you stroke your lashes the more dramatic they become.
No, flaking or smudging with this product. Waterproof version is available as well. Waterproof is always
better when it comes to long lasting beauty. Use makeup remover to remove.

- Remember, pumping your mascara only dries it out. Twist, and pull outward to help mascara last.

Suggestion Product:
Dior Iconic $24.50
